HIGH ENERGY BREAKFAST
We have all heard it before "Breakfast is
the most important meal of the day", yet
many of us skip it or eat the wrong things. Knowing
what to eat in the morning can help you start
your day with energy and help you avoid that midday
crash. The key to a high energy day is to eat a
power packed breakfast.
Starting the day with a breakfast high in protein
will give you instant morning energy and sustain
your hunger until lunch time. This will help you
avoid those mid morning urges for something unhealthy,
like a donut or something a co-worker brought
into work. Some excellent choices for high protein's
are things like an egg white omelet, lean turkey,
or even a smoothie with added protein powder.
Adding in any of these foods will give you the
fuel you need in the morning to get your through
the day.
Another important thing in the morning to consider
is a healthy dose of complex carbohydrates. Complex
carbohydrates are important because they give
your body the energy in the morning without causing
you fluctuations in your insulin levels. That
feeling of being energized then all of a sudden
crashing and feeling like you can fall asleep.
You experience those fluctuations most when you
eat simple carbohydrates from things that contain
sugar.(i.e. Donuts, cookies, etc). One great way
to add in complex carbohydrates into your morning
breakfast is to eat a bowl or Oatmeal or a bowl
of whole grain cereal. Mixed in with some whole
or skim milk and you will cover all the bases.
Oatmeal will give you energy and has lots of nutritional
benefits.
Perhaps the hardest temptation to avoid are those
in-between meals. Snacks, and things you know
you shouldn't eat. One way to curb that desire
is to add some nuts into your daily diet. Nuts
give you an energy boost and they will leave you
satisfied enough to stop the binge eating. Nuts
are also good for heart health because they have
monounsaturated fats. You can have a variety of
nuts also, almonds, pecans, and walnuts are an
excellent choice.
AVOID
Many of us do it, and many of us think we need
it, but one thing to avoid is caffeine. That cup
of coffee will give you a quick burst of energy
only to leave you tired and unproductive shortly
there after. Natural energy derived from good
food sources is much better for energy and will
sustain that charged up feeling throughout the
day. For example a high protein smoothie goes
much further into the day than a cup of coffee
that leaves you with a headache or leaves you
sleeping on your desk.
Lesson is, never skip breakfast, even if you don't
feel hungry try to eat something mentioned above
because you will feel energetic all day from doing
so. Selecting the right foods is the key to keep
you functioning at your peak level all day. If
you are busy and always on the go this is the
one meal you don't want to miss!
